That Dress

Most women are familiar with "the little black dress" - that one classic piece that can be worn for anything from dates to work to an event with minimal additions of different accessories or footwear. Versatility is definitely one of the reasons why the LBD is so ubiquitous in the closets of women around the world; Miik takes this one step further by making theirs out of a machine-washable, comfortable, bamboo rayon milled in Ontario.
While black is occasionally derisively called "basic", that characteristic makes it a perfect canvas for show-stopping statement pieces. As in the outfit above, I often use a solid black piece to anchor a patterned garment that is either very heavy and/or very long.
Switching out the statement vest for a leather jacket gives off a more relaxed vibe. While I'm still wearing the same semi-sheer tights and booties, changing footwear can further change the look. For instance, a pair of wedge sneakers would give a more edgy, cool look; a pair of pumps would give the outfit a professional polish.
And speaking of professional, a cropped jacket or blazer with a bit of texture takes this LBD into the office. This is especially great for those offices that always seem to be bordering on freezing no matter the time of year - an extra layer in those situations are always welcome.
Did I mention that most of Miik's dresses are also reversible? Turning this dress around back to front - there are no bust darts to create odd fabric bulges in the back - reveals a colour-blocked boat neck dress for a night out. Although the addition of colour technically removes this dress from "little black dress" territory, the versatility and comfort make it a different kind of classic.
So the next time you're looking at investing in a dress consider getting one from Miik - in any colour. Their reversible dresses give you two dresses in one and your accessories can extend those looks even further.
