Surtout

We've been enjoying beautiful weather recently here in Calgary; it's almost like spring has arrived early!  But since I always think that anything below 20°C is too chilly I'm still layering for warmth, though the layers I'm wearing are a bit different - for days like these I usually choose an over-layer which is sleeveless or has short sleeves.

The shorter sleeve length works perfectly to add a bit of warmth without the danger of overheating when the weather is cool but not cold.  It's also great over a long-sleeved top which has an interesting pattern or texture since the over-layer does not conceal the sleeves.

This particular over-layer comes with its own matching fabric belt but I also like to mix it up with a leather belt to give it a different look.  While a leather belt is usually considered to be more polished than a fabric belt, a fabric belt can be knotted in several different ways to make it more dressy.  The braided knot you see below is surprisingly easy to do and also holds the over-layer closed securely.  For a more whimsical look, you can also try a wide, patterned/textured ribbon tied in a bow!
