A walk in the PARK

Last weekend was PARK Show at Chinook Centre - an event I look forward to every year and not just for all the gorgeous Canadian-designed eye candy!  As a slow fashion advocate trying to keep my wardrobe as ethical as possible, being able to meet and talk to the designers of small, independent Canadian fashion companies is extremely helpful.

I really enjoy finding out about what inspires each collection, how each piece is constructed and what it's made of; knowing the stories behind my clothes and accessories makes them that much more enjoyable to wear.  There are always several booths for the designers to sell their work and it is such a pleasure to actually touch and try on their pieces while chatting with them.

The runway show itself is always a reminder for me to be adventurous!  Some clothing and accessories can look very intimidating when not worn on a human body, so being able to see what a piece looks like in use is inspiring.  It also gives me ideas about combinations I haven't tried with my existing wardrobe - mixing colours, textures and different silhouettes.  With a minimalist wardrobe getting fresh ideas is always welcome!

PARK Show is also an opportunity to see designers I already know and love.  With their crazy schedules it's nice to be able to see their latest collections and chat about what they've been up to, especially if they no longer live in town (Aleem, I'm looking at you...).  Supporting local is especially nice when the designers are such wonderful people.  ^_^

If you missed the show you can always check out what was on the runway on Instagram, Facebook, or other social media platforms, plus most of the designers have online stores so you can shop their collections in the comfort of your pajamas!  PARK Shop and PARK Sale are also running for the next few weekends at Chinook Centre where several of the designers will be available with small pop-up shops.
